ABOUT
Kirstyn Cubangbang is the founder of Keywaves Music Lessons. She started playing music at the young age of 6 years old and has played the piano for over 19 years. Over the years, she has performed in numerous recitals, was a solo accompanist for a choir, played piano and sang at churches, youth events, and conferences. She is the music/worship director at Innovation Church. Her love for teaching piano started when several of her friends and church family asked if she could teach their children how to play. As she began giving lessons, she discovered her passion in teaching all ages from as young as five years old to those in their seniors. Learning the piano has helped her students build confidence in themselves and grow their musical talents. Whatever reason that you desire to learn the piano, Kirstyn is attentive to what your musical goals are. Kirstyn’s favorite part about teaching is seeing each individual play the songs that resonate the most with them whether it be pop chart tunes, jazz, classical, movie theme songs and much more! She combines the practical, fundamental elements of piano with creativity and fun. Music has a way of speaking to the heart and giving language to the soul. This is what piano has done for her, and it is her desire to pass that on to her students.

TESTIMONIALS
“My daughter has been taking piano lessons from Kirstyn for six years, and loves it! Kirstyn is very kind, patient and takes the time to help form her students into the best musician they can be.”
Nicole G.“Kirstyn is an amazing vocal coach! I loved taking voice lessons with her because I always felt challenged to grow and stretch! Without a challenge, you won’t go anywhere. Every lesson I learned so much about my voice and loved how each exercise she taught she made sure I understood what it did for my voice. One of the things that I love about Kirstyn was her effort to make sure that my weak points were becoming my strengths. Love her!”
Elena G.“My two granddaughters, ages 7 & 5, and I, age 61, started taking piano lessons from Kirstyn last July. As a child, I took piano lessons and did not enjoy it; I think because the music I learned was mainly classical that I did not relate to. I had always thought that I would like to take lessons again, I wanted to be able to play modern songs. Kirstyn has been great helping me with technique, I have learned so much more than as a child. She has been very encouraging for me to choose songs that I want to play. I wish I had a teacher like Kirstyn when I was a child, BUT I am truly enjoying practicing and learning at my age – it keeps my brain active!!!”
Janet N.“Our daughter, Moriah, (age 9) has been enrolled in piano lessons with Kirstyn Cubangbang at Keywaves Music, for over a year now, and we have seen tremendous growth in her musical ability. Kirstyn has tailored Moriah’s lessons to give her an in-depth understanding of piano and theory, while incorporating pieces of music that fit Moriah’s personality and musical of interest. In addition she has encouraged Moriah to be creative, and learn to write her own songs as well. Taking piano lesson has been a wonderful decision for our daughter. We highly recommend Kirstyn Cubangbang with Keywaves Music.”

When is a good age to start music lessons?
A good age to start lessons is 6-7 years old. Kids are beginning to learn numbers and how to count. For adults, it is never too late to learn.
How much practice time is involved?
When students first start lessons, 15 minutes of daily practice is highly recommended for the first six months to a year. After the first year, the practice time will increase to 20-30 mins. Early Intermediate level and up are expected to practice anywhere from 30-60 minutes. Consistent practice is important to become a proficient pianist. Ultimately, it all depends on how the student progresses. What is put into practice will determine how much will be gained.
Do you travel to homes and give lessons?
We do not offer in-home lessons at this time, but we will be offering lessons via Skype and online packages in the near future!
For child students, how important is parent involvement during practice time at home and do they need to be at every lesson?
For the first year, parents are highly recommended to be at their child’s lessons frequently. You will get a sense of their progress and know the areas they need to focus on during practice time at home. There has been a direct correlation to the student’s progress and parent involvement. Parent involvement is critical to the success of the child. When students see that their parents care about their practice, they will be motivated to put in the work because they know that it matters! Once the student reaches the early intermediate level, he or she does not require as much help but will always need encouragement.
What are your payment and cancellation policies?
24-hour notice is always required when lessons need to be rescheduled. Fees are due first lesson (the 1st week) of each month and are non-refundable. No refunds, “roll over” lessons or cancellations – only rescheduling as schedule allows.
